Using Kahoot and Starfall

Dear Parents,

For the past four years, we have integrated Kahoot into YOF classrooms through professional development for our teachers. Kahoot! a game-based learning platform, is used as educational technology in schools and other educational institutions. "Kahoots", are multiple-choice quizzes that are user-generated and can be accessed via a web browser or the Kahoot app. Kahoot is an engaging tool for teachers to introduce a new topic, review content, teach a new lesson, and reinforce knowledge. Many of our students have created Kahoots for school projects and presentations.

You can also Kahoot at home!  Give your children engaging and easy-to-use learning games while school is out, or as an extra to school curriculum. Sign up and get access to millions of free learning games for the entire family.

KAHOOT for Grades 2-8!

With a free Kahoot! account, you and your child can get access to millions of ready-to-play games on any topic, in different languages, for children of all ages. Many of these games were created by teachers to the  Self-study section, or search for relevant topics when you’re logged in to your free account

Choose from millions of existing learning games at by searching for a relevant topic, or else create your own kahoot. Then play a Kahoot! with your family on the big screen in your living room.

Another powerful way to engage your children at home and develop their creative skills is to encourage them to create their own kahoots based on learning content. They can then host them live or share as a challenge. We call this “learners to leaders” pedagogy, which is one of Kahoot!’s core concepts.

This program emphasizes exploration, play, and positive reinforcement that is encouraging children to become confident and intrinsically motivated. was started as a free public service to teach children to read. Since then it has expanded to include language arts and mathematics for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade. Starfall’s emphasis on phonemic awareness, systematic sequential phonics, and common sight words in conjunction with audiovisual interactivity has proven effective in teaching emergent readers. Starfall activities are research-based and align with Individual and Common Core State Standards in English language arts and mathematics.
